Mini Factory Tour (10:00 06/03/10)

Postby keithburton16 » Mon Feb 08, 2010 8:18 pm

I have arranged for a tour of MINI Plant Oxford for Saturday 6th March at 1000. If you've not been before, this is a fasinating chance to visit a state-of-the-art car factory. The historians amongst you will know this is also the location where Sir Alec Issigonis designed, developed and manufactured the first MINI's back in 1959 when the plant was known as Cowley.

You will get to visit the Museum and then follow the whole production process from the robots punching out the first floor-pan to the finished MINI driving off the production line and onto the lorry that will deliver it to it's lucky new owner.

The tour costs £12 per person in cash which is donated to a local charity. The tour is conducted by two former Cowley workers with decades of experience of the plant.

We'll meet at Sutton Scotney North at 0800 for an 0830 departure. Bring your cameras as there will be plenty of opportunities to snap photos in the Museum and outside the factory against the massive MINI backdrop!

Sorry, it's £12 per person. Remember that goes to a charity and you'll get your money's worth; the tour takes at least a couple of hours plus the Museum and photo opportnity.

So we can have more than one in a car? I'd like to bring my son (and possibly daughter) along, they won't want to miss this.

Not going to add myself yet. I actually land back at Heathrow at 6.50am that morning... Need to clear this one with my 'social secretary' first :)
My cars:

1967 MK1 Mini 'SPOM' : Picture of SPOM
2009 JCW Mini Cooper S... Collected 9th December 2008 :)
2009 Cooper Clubman... Collected 9th November 2008 :)

**More Minis than sense!!**

I need to clarify a few rules in place at the plant:

- The money is paid to MINI on the day, not to me. It is forwarded to charity.
- Each slot is PER PERSON not per car, so there are only 25 people going on this tour.
- The absolute minimum age is 14. Anyone underage (14 to 18) needs an accompanying adult.
