Tinsy winsy oil leak

Postby Stuboy » Tue Jul 06, 2010 4:07 pm

Looks like it's coming from where the gear selector rod enters the gear box... it only drips once or twice when I stop driving then it stops... but that's annoying because we've just had a new driveway laid!

Would this be one of those unnecessarily big jobs to fix or is it quite a straight forward seal to replace?

Well, it's quite easy. Drive the roll pin out using the correct drift pin. (I have one if you need it). Hoik the old seal out and oil a new seal, insert into place and bob's your uncle. Be quick so not too much engine oil comes out. Always select reverse before doing this job. You can use an ultimate leak stop kit, which has a metal sleeve with a rubber seal on it, which goes in before the "regular" seal. These work very well. To clean off your driveway, pour neat fairy liquid onto the oil mark and leave it. When it rains, the mark will be gone. Hey Presto!

thanks Jeff!! Only got two drips on the driveway... then I got a drip tray to put under it. But I think I'll use that fairy liquid idea next time it's gonna rain!!

Do mini spares sell those seals? and the one with the metal ring?

Is this the right thing to fix it?

I hope I don't need to take the gear box apart :(
